Ron and Marlys Boehm are the principals of BOMA, working with Kristi Ferrell who manages the investments and our team’s many projects. We love the energy of the startup world, and the passion of the people who are driven by a social purpose.
In the video below they talk to Pioneers Post’s founding editor Tim West about successful impact investments they have been involved in, the challenges they have faced and their frustrations around the lack of education about social investment.
A Letter From the Founder, Ron Boehm
I consider myself a social project experimenter. In the social space, I look for leveraging opportunities between and among networks (e.g. Ashoka, Young Presidents Organization/World Presidents Organization, Net Impact); financing (e.g. social investing with guarantees and grants); and operations / infrastructure. My wife and I have started Boma (Boehm Gladen Foundation and Boma Investments) to help catalyze others to action. Most projects we fund are in a proof of concept or early stage, many of which we initiate or launch with a social entrepreneur, team, or existing business. We like to dig in with our business experience and play an active role in the conceptualization and planning of new businesses and projects. We also find ourselves supporting social companies by providing working capital loans. We like leveraging great ideas that result in great solutions.
Kristi Ferrel is the Investment Manager for Boma Investments. She is also the Media Fellowship Program Coordinator for Opportunity Collaboration
With a background in nutrition and cultural anthropology Kristi worked for over a decade with medical nonprofits both in the US and South Africa. She focused predominately on HIV/AIDS and maternal and child health programs and provided grant and program management, monitoring and evaluation, and supplied health facilities with medicine and medical supplies and equipment.
In 2011 Kristi transitioned to a career in impact investing with the hopes of helping entrepreneurs reimagine what is possible.
