Media + Comms Strategists Program Goals

Leverage opportunities for the social impact community to engage in their work more quickly, more fully and with more knowledge.

Provide ongoing opportunities for those engaged in social impact initiatives to connect with experts/professionals from the media sector, and for those in the media and communications sectors to build relationships and networks to further collaborate on impact driven missions.

Engage Experts in personal and professional development opportunities to better understand, capture and share mission-driven impact across beliefs, borders, stakeholders and countries.
Develop mutually beneficial connections with other Opportunity Collaboration delegates that maximize the impact of social justice and poverty alleviation efforts worldwide.

What to expect:

Prior to OC

Media + Comms Strategist will collaborate through video conference calls, emails, Google docs, and whatsapp. From June - October, Media Comms Strategists will contribute 7-10 hours of their time.

During OC

Strategists will provide a minimum of 10 hours of service. This includes attending the opening and closing receptions, leading or co-leading onsite media and communication sessions, attending and advising delegates during designated office hours and supporting other strategists in the program upon request.

Following OC

Strategists will provide feedback on the engagement via a survey and through a feedback call with one of the Media + Comms Coordinators.

Program Logistics

Boma Media + Comms Strategists receive a full scholarship to cover their Opportunity Collaboration conference fee.

Strategists pay a refundable $295 administration fee. The administration fee will be refunded following attendance of the conference.

Strategists receive a reasonable stipend to cover airfare expenses. Stipends will be based on average airfare costs from the location of origin. Upgraded flights or last-minute bookings costs will not be covered.

The engagement includes all onsite costs: 4 nights lodging (Sunday – Wednesday), all meals Sunday through Thursday, gratuities, airport shuttle, etc.

Strategists are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel documents, including a travel visa from the Portuguese government, if required. The Opportunity Collaboration provides Strategist with a formal invitation letter for use with immigration authorities.

Cancellation: If Strategists do not attend, the $295 administration fee will not be refunded at the conclusion of the conference.
