BIOGRAPHY

(All biographical info is from 2019. For latest bio, please visit Fellow’s website, LinkedIn, or other social media profiles).

Jonathan Co-founded The Center for Media Literacy and Community Development (CEMCOD). CEMCOD among other things supports up-country news organizations to affordably cover hyper-local (Human Interest) stories from villages and had to reach areas that are usually inaccessible to mainstream media using open source ICT tools. The platform has helped Radios to generate trust and deep audience engagement in their coverage and increased accountability in local governance while also empowering newsrooms to accommodate diverse views from over 100 village-based community reporters in Uganda. This Civic and Tech innovation attracted funding from the German government through DW Akademie, German’s leading Media Development organization and is being scaled up to support up to 270 reporters based in rural Uganda.

Jonathan who is a Media Literacy Trainer and advocate has over 10 years’ experience in ICTs (Systems Analysis) and Media for development work, with CSOs, Donor agencies, government departments and the Main-stream Media. He holds a Makerere University Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management (Systems Analysis), Certificate in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL Foundations2011), professional training in Journalism and Mass Communication among others.

In addition, Jonathan is a Social Innovation Fellow at StartingBloc NFP, Fellow @ChangemakerLead’18, TEDx Speaker and Co-organizer of TEDx Nakasero Women.
